When your body is telling you that something needs to change...
Ever wondered if there’s something different you should be doing in your diet? Here are some of the key signs that you’re in need of a change.
You’re tired…all the time
Does thinking of your bed get you excited when it’s only midday at work? Make sleep a priority. Whereas most adults have a very busy schedule, not enough time is set aside for sleep. This is the time when our bodies recharge. Like it or not, if we want to function properly, we need to get n adequate amount of sleep every night.
Foods rich in carbohydrates can often make you tired. Try replacing it with protein rich alternatives and healthy fats. Eating too little can make you tired too.
Your hair and skin are looking worse for wear
Your outside bits are a good indication of what’s happening on the inside. Dry skin, rashes and dry hair shows that your diet could be lacking. Hair and skin need food rich in omegas and need to stay hydrated too.
Protein, iron, vitamin c are key to lustrous hair and glowing skin. Vitamin C is good for producing collagen. Make sure to include oily fish such as salmon and tuna in your diet, and don’t forget the avocado!
You’re moody and grumpy all the time
A diet that’s too low in carbs can be the cause of this. Carbohydrates are what carry us through the day and when these are missing or almost so, it shows in your general attitude towards people. Add more omega 3’s into your food to better your mood. Also, cut back on the sugar! Too much sugar in your system may sound sweet but it causes fluctuating blood sugar levels, mood swings and fluctuating energy levels.
Magnesium is referred to as a relaxer as it works well with neutralising the nervous system. One of the ways it does this is by assisting serotonin, the “feel good” hormone in its balance of release and reception by our brain cells. We require adequate levels of serotonin to enjoy a mental and emotional equilibrium.
Your general energy levels are very low
To avoid this you need to eat at regular intervals, don’t skip meals! Foods such as spinach, beans, raisins, and meats (especially liver!) are ideal as iron rich foods boost energy levels.
You’re sick more often than not
This should be a dead giveaway: your body is telling you that something needs to change. A balanced diet is vital to ensure good health.
Of course, visit a doctor if you’re constantly sick as something may be wrong, but also try to fix the problem from the inside with a good, balanced diet and regular exercise.
